History

Vesubio is the leading brand of the Uruguayan Beverage Distributor, being a registered trademark since 1917. It was created by Mr. Juan Carlos Rodríguez Carrese, initially set up in Isidoro de María Street, corner of San Martín, in the city of Montevideo.

His best legacy was the secret of the great industrial recipe book that over the years had stored Don José Rodríguez Camesselle, founder of this family business, born in Priegue, a humble Galician town near Pontevedra.

In 1861, Don José emigrated to Uruguay and founded a company to exploit the liquor store branch.

Soon the alcohol distilleries of Montevideo could not cope with the expansive demand that Don José Rodríguez had for a true visionary. Already in the last years of the decade of the 20s Don Juan Carlos Rodríguez was known as the 'King of the Caña', a time when a cane on the counter was worth two vintenes.

When in the 40s the Uruguayan government decided to assume the monopoly of alcohols, reeds and staples, the liquor stores suffered a collapse of insurmountable proportions, given that the sale of cane and grappa meant eighty percent of its production. Added to this was the crisis caused by the Second World War.

It was then that Don Juan Carlos Rodríguez began to replace the lost item with an extensive line of alcoholic beverages, becoming an expert in the field of herbal medicine.

On November 1, 1962, Don Heber Rodríguez Peisciottanno, son of Don Juan Carlos, transformed the firm into Establecimientos Vesubio Sociedad Anónima, until in 1982 his youngest son, Gustavo José Rodríguez García, took possession of the company and began to develop the products sold today by Nafirey SA (Uruguayan Beverage Distributor).

TODAY

Today, the company is located in the town of Suárez, Department of Canelones, and is a commercial leader and developer of products under the Vesubio and Siberia brands, among others.
